Highgrove Honey

The relationship that exists between Highgrove, the Estate of His Majesty the King, and Fortnum’s is one based on shared principles. As anyone who has set foot in our Food Halls will attest, Fortnum’s strives to provide the very finest food, made with the best fresh ingredients to the highest standards, by small artisan producers. And so too, does the team behind Highgrove’s superb honey.
Produced by hard-working bees in the Highgrove Estate Gardens, the furry fliers dart all over the grounds from their hives situated in the Dovecote at the back of the house.
Predominantly foraging among the plentiful lime trees and meadow flowers at Highgrove, their efforts at pollination create the Highgrove honey’s fresh, crisp, citrus-lime taste.

The combination of such a famously beautiful location, with such rich Royal connections, and Fortnum’s own iconic backstory, has captured the imaginations of honey-lovers across the globe.
But more than anything, it is the taste of Highgrove’s honeys which is certain to create an impression with Fortnum’s visitors. With particular praise reserved for the balance of sweetness and bitterness, the afore-mentioned citrus notes, and it’s sheer distinctiveness, Highgrove honey is wonderfully unforgettable.
Undoubtedly, Highgrove itself has come a long way in the time since His Majesty King Charles III bought the house in 1980. Then, the surrounds consisted of a brown path which ran around the house, a lawn and a few thorn bushes.
The fact the Highgrove Estate is now home to an abundance of beautiful natural habitat is noteworthy – but even more extraordinary, is that it is the embodiment of the very finest organic food production principles.
And, of course, the home of such exquisite honey.
Honey Fit For A King...
Four different Highgrove honeys are harvested from the gardens – the Spring and Summer Honey (available seasonally) and Royal Garden Honey, which all hail from hives around the gardens and surrounding farmland. The Royal Estate Honey is a truly special one and is harvested from three specially commissioned hives that Fortnum's gifted to His Majesty The King for his 70th birthday, which sit behind the house. This honey is extremely limited and only harvested once a year with the spring and summer yields creamed together combining the different delicate flavours from spring – floral hedgerow notes – and summer – delicate citrus from the lime trees.
