Our Sweet Tooth's Gift Guide

The Sweet Tooth's Guide to Christmas
INSPIRED BY THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY
So much of Christmas feasting is focused on savoury delights, but as avowed sweet-tooths ourselves, we know that it's a time to indulge in chocolate, confectionery and candy, too. It’s why we and the Nutcracker! are such kindred spirits, after all.
Read on and shop a hand-picked selection of some of our very best biscuits, chocolates and sweet things, perfect for stocking fillers, gifting to loved ones and of course, oneself this Christmas.

Glacé Fruits Selection
Our Glacé Fruits are handmade in France in delicate, traditional fashion, with cooked fruits being slowly steeped in increasingly-strong sugar solutions over a period of months. These should be enjoyed in moderation, the result is a soft, moreish, oh-so-very-juicy fruit confection with a satisfyingly crunchy sugar coating. Delicious.

Nutcracker! Biscuits
Tuck into these festive biscuits laden with rich pistachios, creamy almonds and sweet cranberries. These merry, oaty biscuits are delicious enough to bring fighting foes – like the Nutcracker! and the Mouse King – to peace, and are perfect with a cup of Royal Blend. Let the dunking commence!

Elvas Plums
The original sugar plums, whose name was borrowed by Tchaikovsky for his now-famous fairy, these incredible sweet treats hail from the Elvas region of Alentejo, Portugal, where greengage plums are cooked then soaked in sugar for six weeks. Succulent, they make a superb after-dinner nibble or cheeseboard companion.
Salted Caramel Berlingot

Delicately handmade in France just for Fortnum’s, these melt-in-the-mouth Salted Caramel Berlingot Sweets have a creamy and chewy centre and the most exquisite taste of caramel.
Did you know? The Berlingot was said to be invented in the 14th century by Pope Clement V's cook. However it's thanks to confectioner François Pascal Long, who improved the recipe in 1844, that the Berlingot became famous and his recipe is still used today.
Christmas Spiced Chocolate Bar

The spirit of Christmas is well and truly alive in the 'The Night It Snowed Stars'. This limited edition bar is only available in paperback during the festive period and is part of our Chocolate Library.
Inside the milk chocolate casing is a generously filled soft centre of sweetly-spiced caramelised biscuit - enjoy alongside a cup of our Christmas Coffee for that superlative festive feeling.

Christmas Peppermint Bark
We’ve taken this traditional Stateside treat and created our very own, very Fortnum’s version. Handmade in small batches, this bracing Bark is made by pouring an English peppermint-infused white chocolate over a base of rich and decadent dark chocolate. Our Peppermint Bark is a marvellously minty treat and is finished with a dusting of crushed peppermint candy canes.

Nutcracker! Iced Biscuits
An ode to the most beloved Christmas tale, our scrumptious Nutcracker! Iced Biscuits are a wonderful treat. Iced by hand and crafted in the shape of the story’s most recognisable characters, including the Nutcracker! and a Prima Ballerina, the 12 handmade gingerbread bites are the perfect accompaniment to a warming cup of our Christmas Blend Tea.

Double Trouble Chocolate Mice
The Nutcracker was first performed as a ballet with Tchaikovsky’s spectacular music in December 1892, and this cheeky pair of solid white chocolate mice, decorated with pink tails and ears, are perfect for tucking into when the Mouse King makes his appearance in Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! Which has been enjoyed by millions since 1992.

Dark Chocolate Griottes
Our Dark Chocolate Griottes are handmade in England from Kentish Morello cherries. Each Griotte is steeped in brandy for a minimum of three years before it is dipped in fondant sugar and decadent dark chocolate.
Made to a traditional French recipe by our expert Chocolatiers in Brighton, once every Griotte is double-dipped by hand, the cherries are left to stand for a further six weeks. Once tested, ensuring the brandy-soaked cherries have turned into a sweet, boozy syrup that brings a sensational flavour in each bite, they are then hand-wrapped in foil and safely packaged in a wooden box.
Caramel & Toffee Tin
Each caramel and toffee in this keepsake tin is mixed by hand in small batches, inside traditional cooper cauldrons to a secret recipe, then decorated, foiled and packed by hand in England. The cream we use comes from a rural 400 acre farm with only a small herd of cows, that roam outside in the fields. When inside, they have beds of deep straw and are fed with grass and clover silage that grows on the farm. This leads to healthy, happy cows that produce exceptionally high-quality milk and cream.
The smooth, creamy caramel with Madagascan Vanilla Bean, Rosa Damascene and Halen Mon Anglesey Salt is slightly chewy in texture and melts on the tongue. Whilst the toffee, in contrast, is firm but not hard, with buttery undertones that perfectly compliment the milk and dark chocolate.
