Ponce Clos Lojen 2023, Manchuela, Spain, 75cl

Bodegas y Viñedos Ponce is a prominent biodynamic wine estate in the lesser-known Manchuela region of Spain. Juan Antonio Ponce, known as the master of the Bobal variety, began the estate with his father - who owned some land in Manchuela - in 2005 at the age of 23. His experience includes five years as the right-hand man to famed winemaker Telmo Rodriguez.

This wine boasts a lovely cherry colour with violet hues on the rim and medium density. On the nose there are fresh aromas of cherries and blackberries, complemented by woodland hints, liquorice and the odd lactic note. At first it seems shy, but its juiciness soon hits the palate, filling it with luscious tannins and light spicy suggestions. Pair with classic nibbles and appetisers, including olives, cured cheeses, paella and even your Sunday roast.
