A truly wonderful English still wine, Fortnum's 2019 English Bacchus was hand-picked for its distinctly grassy, herbaceous character after extensive blind tasting.
Made by Laneberg Winery in the North East of England, this urban winery use a basket press to fully capture the aromas and flavours of an English country garden – from clean elderflower to refreshing tropical fruits.
Sourced from the Poulton Hill Vineyard in Gloucestershire, the grapes are akin to Sauvignon Blanc – exuding crisp apple and garden herb notes with an uplifting cucumber freshness. Thriving in cooler climates, the Bacchus grape is a great match for England's unpredictable weather and is a testament to England’s growing ability to produce delicious wine.
Perfect as an aperitif, it is best enjoyed on its own or with a range of food pairings, including smoked salmon, poultry and grilled fish.
Suitable for vegans.
