THE CHRISTMAS PANTRY ESSENTIALS EDIT
FOR A CHRISTMAS EXTRAORDINARY

Christmas comes but once a year, but that shouldn’t mean your festive pickles, preserves and pantry jars only get a single outing as well. They’re far too delicious for that. Here, with delicious abandon, we have some surprising yet utterly delightful alternatives that will extend the use of these jars beyond just Christmas Day.
Here’s a little food for thought… for a particularly indulgent Sunday morning, how does Cognac Butter on your croissant sound? What about a little Fig Preserve to spice up your Victoria Sponge? Or a Christmas Mincement infused NYE cocktail, anyone?
Read on to discover every Christmas pantry essential you’ll need this festive season, and our take on some delicious alternative servings. Let the merry experimenting commence…
Christmas Pickled Sprouts
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without cold cuts appearing on your plate - for days – but pop a pickled Brussel pprout alongside your cold cuts and oh what joy. Crunchy with a gentle sweetness, these sprouts will convert even the most ardent sprout naysayer.
But it doesn't stop at cold cuts, oh no. Pop a few on your festive cheeseboard, chop them up and stir them into your Boxing Day bubble and squeak, or utter perfection is adding them to a turkey or ham sandwich. We could go on…

Christmas Figgy Mustard
Who doesn’t love a cheese straw? Well next time you’re grating your Gruyère, be sure to add a good few dollops of Christmas Figgy Mustard into the mix. You’ll thank us when you take a bite.
Continuing on the cheese theme, our Figgy Mustard is great on a cheeseboard, especially with a good Cheddar. And otherwise, add a spoonful to dressings and sauces to take them to the next level.
Christmas Cognac Butter
Why not continue the festive indulgences and fry slices of leftover Christmas Pudding in this wonderful stuff... with the addition of bacon if you’re feeling particularly...hungry. It’s rich, admittedly, but very, very delicious.
Otherwise, all pastries are this butter’s best friend. Warm a mince pie and slip some under the lid to melt into the mincemeat. Add it to your Bread and Butter Pudding or slather over a freshly warm croissant... it is Christmas after all.

Christmas Mincemeat Pantry Jar
This Minemeat isn’t ‘meat’ at all — but a sweet, vegan-friendly medley of juicy currants, raisins and sultanas soaked in brandy, and laden with traditional festive spices. It’s the ideal ingredient for your baking endeavours... think apple and mincemeat cake, or maybe layered into a cinnamon whirl.
For some festive sipping, why not infuse a spoonful or two into your favourite tipple for a New Year’s Eve cocktail like no other. Gin and Rum work particularly well, so we’re told. Cheers.
Christmas Fig Preserve
Another fine companion to a wedge of mature Cheddar cheese – you simply can’t go wrong with this duo. But for some slightly more adventurous servings, what about a swapping your usual jam on toast for a little festive Fig Preserve instead? Your Victoria Sponge will thank you for this flavoursome addition. Or dollop atop a scone!
Teatime is an important moment in a Fortnum’s day, and we can highly recommend a lightly spiced Fig Newton to accompany your brew. Or how about figgy twist on a Cherry Bakewell using this most delicious preserve and Amaretto?

Boxing Day Pickle
The ultimate solution for leftovers, no Boxing Day is complete without a spoonful of this to hand... and indeed leftovers of every stripe well after the festivities have subsided. This punchy pickle works with almost any leftover meat and is very at home on a cheeseboard, too.
Christmas Sugar Plum Preserve
A seasonal homage to Victorian confectionery, this ruby red preserve is a masterful accompaniment to our Queen Victoria Pudding.
But beyond its traditional use, it's perfect for spreading atop your toast or Christmas pastries, and it also sits rather well on a cheeseboard. This preserve is also especially good served alongside dark meats - think duck or goose.
