Fortnum's Dao Tinto, Niepoort, 75cl

Founded in 1842 and still family-owned, Niepoort is led by Dirk Niepoort, whose innovative thinking and rebellious talents reshaped perceptions of Portuguese wines. Gentle extraction, large old oak and a focus on freshness define both their fortified and dry still wines. Niepoort has been a Fortnum’s partner since 2004 and this fruity and herbaceous dry red from the Dão is a field blend (a mix of grape varieties grown together) of indigenous Portuguese varieties including Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Touriga Nacional. It pairs beautifully with pork dishes and tomato-based sauces. Jasmine Hortop's illustration reflects this contemporary, new-wave Portuguese red wine with an abstract interpretation of the 'field blend’.
