Fortnum's Monastrell, Rafael Cambra, 75cl

Rafael Cambra is among a new generation of Spanish winegrowers championing traditional methods, local grape varieties and forgotten regions. His family owns one of the most prestigious vine nurseries in Spain, with clients such as Vega Sicilia and Alvaro Palacios. In 2001, he decided to establish his own cellar after finding a vineyard with 50-year-old Monastrell vines. The vineyards lie in the lowest part of the Sierra, inland from Valencia, with olive and almond trees thriving in the Mediterranean climate. Rafael's philosophy is based on minimal intervention, from vineyard to bottle, producing elegant wines full of character and freshness. Our Monastrell is delicious and fruity with layers of plum, dark cherry and florals. Valencia’s rugged landscape offers a striking colour palette, from the earthy reds of its soils to the deep greens and browns of its old bush vines. Artist Jasmine Hortop captures this natural contrast beautifully on the label.
