…Mayo, mustard, tartar, dressing! You get the idea. It’s a phrase said by those sat around tables, on picnic rugs, outside, inside, right up and down the country.
We are, of course, talking about condiments. Spicy, zesty, salty, smoky (we could go on) add that pop of flavour needed to bring a dish alive or introduce that extra dimension of flavour.
Condiments, by definition, are ‘substances used to add flavour to food’, and boy do our latest range of dressings, jams and mayos do just that. Let us introduce you to them and proffer some suggestions for the ideal foods to pair them with.
Dress to Impress
Salads sans dressing can sometimes be a little underwhelming; a tad dry on the palate. And whilst no summertime BBQ is complete without a salad or two, it’s fair to say that it’s always the salad that’s left over. But there’s hope for salads yet… meet our new Lemon & Caper Dressing.
This zesty little number is just what’s needed to perk up your salad leaves. Hoorah! But not only that, those lemons and capers will provide a zingy hit to grilled fish and roasted Mediterranean vegetables.
Marvellous Mayos
At Fortnum’s, we believe in the extraordinary. Not satisfied with adding one or two delicious new mayonnaises to our range, we are on a mission to elevate your summer feasting with five fabulous new mayos. Let’s get you acquainted…

First up is our Truffle Mayonnaise – silky and unami-rich with a punchy fungi flavour. It also happens to make the perfect dipping accompaniment for truffle fries.

For lovers of a good ploughman’s, our peppery Mustard & Red Ale Mayonnaise is just the ticket for cold cuts. Made with a splash of Fortnum’s Ale it’s rather good in a sandwich too.

To make any BBQ a triumph, look no further than our Smoked Garlic Mayonnaise – reinvigorated Aioli made all the richer by the smoked garlic.

Fish and chips… a great British favourite whether you’re at the seaside or frequenting the local inn. Elevate battered fish with a dollop of our Lemon & Oregano Mayonnaise.

Meet our bold and smoky Vegan Chilli & Paprika Mayonnaise. Flecked with ancho chilli flakes, this will add a spicy, tangy finish to any dish you choose to pop it on.
No Ta Ta to Tartare
Our beautiful new Tartare Sauce is made by an expert condiment producer on their rural Wiltshire farm. Handmade using free range eggs, Spanish capers and French Dijon Mustard, this Tartare Sauce balances tangy and tart perfectly. Subtle herby notes are thanks to the parsley and gherkin finish, and a spoonful of this next to white fish and a side of triple-cooked chips is simply wonderful.
A Bold and Bright Finish
No summertime gathering is quite complete without bringing out the cheese board. As it’s presented to the table it’s greeted with delight and applause, because no matter how much feasting has gone on, there’s always space for a cracker or two.
For lovers of strong cheese, we think you might be partial to our new Chilli & Tomato Jam. Spicy, yes, but it has a gentle heat balanced by a tangy sweetness. It’s also a welcome hit to any savoury sauce – try it.
