The intense, almost purple-coloured Meerlust Rubicon is one of the great Bordeaux-style reds of the New World.
The nose is classically Rubicon nose with violets, ripe plum, cedarwood and intense spicyness. And with a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc the palate is rich, structured and packed with earthy dark fruit and rounded, linear tannins. It is delicious.
As Neal Martin of the Wine Advocate writes, this vintage is a wine very much worthy of its iconic status.
