Shades of Earl Grey
HOT STUFF
If there’s one thing guaranteed to get us hot under the collar here at Fortnum’s, it’s tea – and one blend that we’ve been in a deviant relationship with for more than a century is our delicious Earl Grey.
It was British Prime Minister Charles Grey who first gave his name to the hugely popular black tea in the 1830s, and our experts created their own particularly good version 90 years later. Since then, it’s always been thought of as a classic English afternoon tea, but we’ll admit – after all, we’re amongst friends – that ours has been subject to a certain amount of healthy experimentation over the years.
With twists on the traditional blend, along with Early Grey-infused biscuits, candles and more, let us introduce a racy cast of characters for you to fantasise about, including our latest heroine Victoria Grey…
NEW!
Victoria Grey
It was in Queen Victoria’s reign that Britain became a nation of tea lovers. Joining the cast of our Famous Teas, Victoria Grey is citrusy, floral and sweet - there is no other blend like it, the flavour combinations are totally unique. Using Fortnum’s own Salisbury Plain Honey with our classic bergamot-infused Earl Grey as part of the blend, with notes of lavender to create a delicious cup that is truly fit for a queen.

Countess Grey
A twist on the traditional bergamot-infused blend, our heroine Countess Grey is based on well-twisted orange pekoe teas, lifted by classic bergamot and a light orange flavour. Its light and delicate character makes it ideal for morning or afternoon drinking, when the spirits require a little reviving.

Smoky Earl Grey
Created in response to a request from the Palace for a smokier Earl Grey, this unique blend of Tea Bags combines traditional bergamot with a touch of Lapsang and Gunpowder tea. For years its unique smokiness has been popular for very good reason.

Green Earl Grey
A blend of oriental green teas delicately scented with bergamot oil, this is lighter in character than regular Earl Grey but just as good. Served without milk, it is refreshing and full of fragrance and character ideal at any time of day. Particularly lovely with cucumber sandwiches at Afternoon Tea

Earl Grey Classic
One of the great classic English afternoon teas, its flavour is made up of simple black tea flavoured with stimulating oil of bergamot. A refreshing tea with abundant citrus notes, it pairs perfectly with rich sweet or savoury flavours – from dark chocolate to spiced lamb.
