Fortnum's 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Niepoort, 50cl

The wines that make up this delicious tawny port age patiently in cask in Dirk Niepoort’s historic cellars in Villa Nova de Gaia, across the river from Porto. Over ten years (sometimes longer), a portion known as ‘the angel’s share’ evaporates, concentrating the remainder (water evaporates faster than alcohol). Oxygen seeps in through the oak staves… the result is a golden wine, nutty in flavour, silky in texture and wonderfully complex. Its notes of apricot, candied fruit and caramel work beautifully with dried fruit, nuts and chocolate. Serve chilled.
