Fortnum's Fancies

The fondant fancy’s humble charm has endured for decades – but now, prepare to be infatuated with our special take on the perfectly British tea time favourite. Introducing the Fortnum’s Fancies: small, dainty, and delicious, their pleasing appearance has driven many of our staff to distraction since their arrival at our Piccadilly store. We’re only human after all.

Lovingly handmade in the UK, each of our Fancies is highly eligible – although admittedly, they have been flirting with us in a manner that can only be described as highly inappropriate. The truth of the matter is, most of us have surrendered to a frenzied tryst: the light sponge cakes, each infused with our own preserves and curds, have proved so seductive that they have left us hot-cheeked, short of breath, and in some cases, with beards full of stray crumbs.

And who can blame them? Fortnum’s Fancies are single – unless you choose to purchase a box of either six or 12, of course – and thoroughly ready to mingle. They love nothing more than to be taken to afternoon tea, where you can engage in several seconds of no-strings-attached deliciousness with one, before moving onto the next for the same. Countess Grey Fancy

Our own twist on a Fortnum’s classic, the light, elegant sponge is infused with Countess Grey Tea, and topped with a layer of our Lemon Curd and a ball of sweet marzipan – and finally, draped in an elegant violet fondant icing.

Fortmason Fancy

A deliciously extravagant fancy clothed in our signature Eau de Nil, our handmade Fortmason Fancy is filled with our luxurious Strawberry & Champagne Preserve, and topped with a ball of sweet marzipan.

Rose Pouchong Fancy

Our lovingly handmade fancy is infused with our fragrant and aromatic Rose Pouchong Tea, filled with sumptuous layer of our Damson & Gin Preserve, topped with sweet marzipan, and finished with rose fondant icing.

Lemon Curd Fancy

Two childhood favourites make a delicious collision with this delicately flavoured, lemon-infused soft sponge, which is filled with a layer of our lusciously light Lemon Curd, topped with sweet marzipan, and finished with a winking yellow fondant icing.

Cherry Fancy

This delicately flavoured soft sponge is a juicy treat for any afternoon tea: infused with sweet yet tangy cherry, packed with English fruit from our Cherry Preserve, topped with marzipan, and to finish, wrapped in a warm magenta fondant icing.

Marmalade Fancy

The stalwart of the British breakfast table is here to conquer afternoon tea, with a citrusy orange-infused fancy that is layered with our Burlington Breakfast Marmalade and sweet marzipan, and resplendent in a bright orange fondant icing.
