Savage Red Duncan Savage, 75cl

Made by Duncan Savage from low-vigour Syrah vines on decomposed granite soils in Kuils River, this 2021 release is one of the strongest vintages to date. Practising organic methods and producing in small quantities, Savage ferments the fruit as whole bunches using a mix of submerged cap and traditional open-top techniques, followed by basket pressing and 23 months’ ageing in old oak. The result is a structured, focused red with dark plum, lavender, cola and the hallmark Langverwagt white pepper. Firm tannins and bright acidity suggest excellent ageing potential over the next 10-15 years.
