Château Charmail is a historic estate whose wines were prestigious enough to be served at the court of King Louis XV. Set on the gravel and clay soils of the Gironde estuary, just 2km north of St Estèphe, the 28 hectares of vines are organically farmed by its dedicated owners Bernand d'Halluin, the Goudet-Liquard family and winemaker, Sébastien Pineau. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this wine is gently vinified and aged in large oak casks and concrete eggs, creating an elegant, savoury Bordeaux with silky tannins, vibrant fruit and classic Haut-Médoc character.

Tasting Note
This a very good buy for those seeking a characterful Bordeaux with plenty of pedigree and excellent value for money. Plump and savoury with a fresh, silky feel. It displays classic cassis and cedar with smooth, round tannins that make it very approachable and perfect for any table.

Food Pairing
Roast lamb; beef or venison casserole; aged gouda.
