Fortnum's Rock

Whilst Blackpool Rock may feel like that classic confection that has always been there and always will be, sadly, that’s not the case – it’s a dying art due a lack of skilled crafts people trained in rock making.

There are only about 30 people left in the UK with the skills required to put the lettering to into sticks of rock, and three of them work for Stanton & Novelty, the makers of our Fortnum’s Rock. It takes roughly six years to be able to confidently letter rock as every aspect of each stage needs to be done at exactly the right time, when the toffee is at the right temperature, and there is no way of telling when that is other than by feel.
