Chassagne 1er Cru Embrazées Morey 2018, 75cl

This cuvée is very much a Vincent Morey staple and shows a lovely balance between fruit intensity and minerality. It is aged in 40% new oak, which comfortably supports the significant fruit concentration without dominating the ripe, nicely-tensioned mid palate. This 2018 is a warm and generous vintage both in size and style.

The Morey family have been very prominent in Burgundy for a number of years and can be traced back several centuries. Brothers Thomas and Vincent, sons of father Bernard, set up their own eponymous domaines in 2006 when inheriting their part of the family estate. Amongst the various plots of Chassagne that they took with them, was a large chunk of Les Embrazées, which lies to the south of the village at a similar altitude to Caillerets and Ruchottes, and just below the stony Baudines. Vincent owns a sizable parcel, totalling 3.7 hectares; his wife, Sophie, having also inherited some vines in Embrazées from her own family.
