Picnic Tipple Tips

Cheers to Spring!
FORTNUM'S TOP TIPPLE TIPS
The season of al fresco feasting is upon us, and now is the time to hone in on your picnic prowess…
You’ve mastered the art of packing your picnic like a professional and what delicious food to pop inside your wicker basket or cool bag, but what about the drinks? A warm white doesn’t bear thinking about it… So before you spring out into the great outdoors, we’ve compiled all of our drinking wisdom right here, with the help of our experts from our Wine & Spirits team.
Read our four useful tips below to have your tipples chilled and ready to be served to perfection.
| 1 | Shake It... | |
|
Jam jars make a great vessel for transporting pre-mixed drinks, to which ice can be added once in situ at your picnic. Your reusable coffee cup is an excellent substitute for a cocktail shaker - depending on how merry you wish your picnic to be. |

| 2 | Freeze It... | |
|
Wine can be chilled to below drinking temperature. Simply pop your bottles in the freezer – an hour or two before travelling – so your journey does not heat the wine too much, and it can be served chilled without the need to bring an ice bucket or bulky cool box. |

| 3 | Chill It... | |
|
Don’t fear chilled, lighter red wines. Beaujolais in particular works well when chilled and is supremely versatile when it comes to food matching. Much better that a red is a little too cold than a little too warm. |

| 4 | Pour It... | |
|
Glassware is a must – plastic cups just don’t look or taste right. Stemless wine glasses, tumblers or even our old friend the jam jar are all a vast improvement on plastic, and add to the joys of drinking outdoors atop a picnic rug. |
