Assam Tea Notes
From a charmingly untouched part of the world, Assam is home to the rare White Rhino and the Kaziranga National Park and, on the very first sip of this bold brew, you’ll taste the strong and warming layers of complex tea flavours.
Assam tea, indigenous to India's steamy Brahmaputra Valley, is one of the world's oldest varieties. Made from the delicate leaf tips of the Assam tea bush, its full-bodied and robust character makes it an ideal companion to a really special breakfast or a sweet afternoon tea.
The finest quality leaf grade is selected for its well-twisted style and plentiful golden tip content. The tip is the very youngest tips (newest growth) of the tea plant. Produced during the peak second flush crop, during end May/early June (peak quality window last for just 10-15 days) when the weather conditions are perfect for making quality Assam tea.
Assam produces the strongest, most full-bodied tea type, and is generally best served with milk. The tasting profile of Assam is typically malty, thick, strong and full-bodied.
As the years pass, more and more Assam estates are losing their ‘Assamness’ as Assamica bush varieties are uprooted and replanted with more generic clones. Through our sourcing, we focus on estates that continue to focus on leaf appearance and liquor quality combined.
