Fortnum's Gin Cocktails

NEW & CLASSIC COCKTAILS
There are few drinks that are steeped in as much history or are as synonymous with London than gin. The mere thought of it conjures notions of bygone days when parties were as extravagant as Gatsby’s. London’s illustrious history with gin dates back to the 1700s, where at the time the average man, woman (and often child) in London drank two pints of gin a week and by 1775 a pint of gin was cheaper than a pint of beer.
In the present day gin is undergoing a much deserved resurgence, with small distilleries crafting new artisan gins, we even have our own Fortnum’s Gin, hand-crafted less than three miles from our Piccadilly store by The London Distillery Company. To honour our long standing love affair with gin we're always developing fantastic new ways to blend it for a delicious cocktail. Below is a selection of our favourite cocktails of the moment, some are classics and some a little more seasonal, even a little more intricate, but always a true taste Fortnum’s.

Tom Collins
This classic has been around since the 1850s. The original was made with Old Tom Gin which is slightly sweeter than present day gins, which is why we’ve updated this classic with a generous spoonful of our Orange Marmalade.
A generous measure of Fortnum's Amalthea Gin, shaken with 25ml fresh lemon juice, a teaspoon of Orange Marmalade, a teaspoon of caster sugar and then topped with soda.
Floral Fizz
The dash of Champagne in this fragrant cocktail causes the Gin’s juniper notes to open up and blossom on the palate. A perfect cocktail for the summer and the taste of a blooming English Garden in a glass.
Add 15ml of Fortnum's Amalthea Gin to a shaker with 15ml of Lavender Honey water and 15ml of fresh lemon juice. Shake and then strain into the glass, topping with a liberal splash of Fortnum's Champagne.

Rose Of Mary
A cocktail that delicately blends the distinct taste of gin with the sweetness of English apples for a crisp, refreshing drink. The spring of rosemary at the end subtly cuts a characteristically bittersweet flavour through the apple.
Stir 50ml of Fortnum's Amalthea Gin, two headed teaspoons of Apple Jelly and 25ml of cloudy apple juice in mixing glass to dissolve, then strain into glass over ice and top with soda. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
A Spin On Gin
Like a Negroni but better. Lighter, but somehow more complex. The bitterness is found naturally in the Grapefruit Marmalade allowing this to perfectly compliment the soft Fortnum's Gin and the delicate sweetness of Lillet.
Stir 30ml of Fortnum's Amalthea Gin, 30ml of Lillet Rouge and one heaped teaspoon of Grapefruit Marmalade in mixing glass to dissolve, and then strain into a glass over ice. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
