Our long and happy relationship with Heinz is well-documented. In 1886 a young entrepreneur by the name of Henry J Heinz arrived on our Piccadilly doorstep with a suitcase full of Baked Beanz.
It was love at first sight, and as cupboards around the country will attest, it is a romance that has endured through the ages. Last February, in fact, we marked 150 years of Heinz with a series of very special celebrations and a collection of limited edition products, and this ‘Valenheinz’ Day, the love affair continues.
Our latest collaboration presents a new love story between two unexpected flavours. You could say fate brought them together, although that wouldn’t be entirely accurate: actually it’s been a carefully arranged marriage of sorts, and the result of rigorous testing and tasting to ensure exactly the right balance of flavours.
Together with Heinz, we have combined the bright and tart flavours of their Tomato Ketchup with Fortnum’s silky sweet chocolate ganache to create a truly surprising truffle. Although, really, you should come to expect the unexpected when it comes to Fortnum’s chocolate.
With just 1,000 boxes created containing nine truffles each in milk, dark and white, these exclusive-and-extremely-limited-edition chocolates have been handmade, and lovingly mixed, poured and coated by Fortnum’s expert chocolatiers.
While this seemingly forbidden match may fly in the face of all societal expectations, our Ketchup Truffles represent a love without prejudice. Think Romeo & Juliet without the misery, or Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy without all the misunderstandings.
We’re also giving a box away. To enter our competition and win, make sure you’re following @fortnums and @HeinzUK on Facebook and look out for our 'Valenheinz Ketchup Chocolate Truffles' post - simply like the photo and comment below with your favourite unusual ketchup pairing.
Prize draw ends at midnight on 2nd February and we’ll choose the winner on 3rd February. Good luck!
