Bodegas Alonso Amontillado 1/15 butts
Bodegas Alonso begins its journey in the Marco de Jerez with three "encastes" of oxidative aging wines of the highest quality and old age of their categories. These "encastes" are made up of the very old soleras of Pedro Romero, Gaspar Florido and Fernando Méndez. The wines of these soleras are of recognized world prestige and unique for their old age and maximum quality. This wine is simply stunning. It was released recently along with an Oloroso 1/14 and a Palo Cortado 1/8 which, despite being from criaderas, are over 50 years old. These supply the much older solera wines which the Asencio brothers bought from the remains of Pedro Romero. It is bottled unfiltered. It has a Burnished old mahogany colour. Very attractive aromas of buttery caramel and almond, with traces of cedar. A crisp start to the palate, which then softens with lots of toasted nuts before reverting back to a crisper, tangier style with salinity. Always beautifully balanced and with a long, dry finish.
