The celebrated champagne house of Perrier-Jouët was founded in 1811 by Pierre Nicholas Marie Perrier and his wife Adele Jouët, who were originally cork-makers. Pierre's son Charles Perrier, who became mayor of Epernay, firmly established the outstanding reputation of the Champagnes of Perrier Jouët. Sales to the UK first began in 1815 and to the United States in 1837. Perrier-Jouët Champagnes were enjoyed in the Royal households of Queen Victoria, Napoleon III and King Leopold of the Belgians.
