Established in 1852, Murrieta is one of the oldest and most respected bodegas in Rioja Alta. Their wines are concentrated and long-lived and some, like “Castillo Ygay”, have become legendary amongst wine-lovers.
The Murrieta Reserva mainly consists of Tempranillo with small quantities of Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha. It blends modern and traditional wine making techniques, with fermentation in stainless steel before the wine matures in American oak barrels for nearly 2 years. The wine is intense in colour, with aromas of red berries, ripe plum, liquorice and balsamic. On the palate the wine is silky and balanced with rounded tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long and mineral with a hint of sweet spice.
An extremely versatile wine which pairs well with lamb, beef and, of course, jamon, as well as robust fish dishes such as monkfish wrapped in serrano ham.
