Three Classic Cocktails

Three Classic Cocktails

From the Fortnum's Cookbook

There is no disputing the classics when it comes to cocktails. From a Martini that's drier than the Kalahari to a Negroni that sits upon the lips like Florence at dusk, our three classic cocktails are sure to leave your tastebuds in a tizzy.
Martini

Martini

There are endless tales of how to make the perfect Martini. It should be suitably arid; dry but not too dry; ONLY made with gin and cold as an iceberg drifting in the Arctic ocean. Well, we think it's rather simple really - in the words of Tom Parker Bowles, 'The great martini should be freezing cold, viscous and pack a satisfying punch.'

Pour the gin or vodka and the vermouth into a chilled mixing glass and add some ice cubes. Stir for 10-15 seconds, then strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with an olive.

65ml Fortnum's London Dry Gin or Fortnum's English Barley Vodka

5ml dry Vermouth

Ice cubes

1 olive

Negroni

Negroni

Deceptively strong, our classic Negroni is sublimley bitter - the perfect aperitif of champions. It works both as a pretty palate cleanser and a delightful boozy treat.

Pour the vermouth, gin and Campari into a chilled mixing glass and add some ice cubes. Stir for 10-15 seconds, then strain into an old-fashioned glass. Add a large ice cube and garnish with a slice of orange.

25ml Cocchi Vermouth di Torino

25ml Fortnum's London Dry Gin

25ml Campari

Ice cubes

A slice of orange

Old Fashioned

Old Fashioned

Best sipped in late night, ill-lit bars, the Old Fashioned completes our classic cocktail trio. A smooth, elegant punch of perfection in a glass, we advise no attempt at changing this timeless recipe.

Pour the whisky, sugar syrup and Angostura bitters into a chilled mixing glass and add some ice cubes. Stir for 10-15 seconds, then strain into an old-fashioned glass. Add ice cubes and garnish with a strip of orange zest and a cherry.

50ml Bourbon

5ml sugar syrup

3 dashes of Angostura bitters

Ice cubes

A strip of orange zest

A cherry
