Ten Reasons to Visit Us at The Royal Exchange

Ten Reasons to Visit Us at The Royal Exchange

There are few iconic buildings that stack up against our home in Piccadilly – but one such icon is The Royal Exchange. Last year opened our newest store within the historic centre of trade, along with the beautiful Fortnum's Bar & Restaurant in the Royal Exchange courtyard. Our newest digs immediately made quite the impression, with our courtyard eaterie deemed one of London’s most Instagrammable restaurants by The Evening Standard.

Despite our propensity for an aesthetically-pleasing silver canopy, we're not just a pretty face – from Fortnum’s favourites served in store to a bespoke dinner menu accompanied by live music, we're clocking up likes left right and centre. There are multitudinous reasons to pay us a visit at our new outpost – but allow us to relay ten very important ones below...

1. Enjoy Afternoon Tea in the heart of the City

It is no secret that we are pioneers when it comes to Afternoon Tea – wherever Fortnum’s ventures our iconic teas and famous treats are sure to follow. While our Piccadilly home is no stranger to an afternoon indulgence, it is a lot less common to find an Afternoon Tea in The City – or one as good as ours anywhere very far from Piccadilly.

Take your 4 o’clock meeting with a sip of our Royal Exchange blend, specially crafted for our City residence. Feast on the finest finger sandwiches, including honey roasted ham with English mustard and Fortnum’s smoked salmon with lemon butter.

Debate over whether your clotted cream or Fortnum’s strawberry preserve goes on top, while you devour our moreish buttery scones.

2. Eat All Our Classics in The Fortnum's Bar & Restaurant

From preserves to Scotch Eggs, the Fortnum’s name is proudly associated with some of the finest foods and most innovative recipes.

Our speciality Piccadilly 181 Smoked Salmon is smoked on the rooftop of our flagship store, hand-carved at the Royal Exchange bar counter, and served with shallots, capers, homemade soda bread and seaweed butter – a must-try.

For breakfast try everything from a classic Full English Breakfast (Fortnum’s style) to Matcha Pancakes and Scotch Porridge with our very own Fortnum’s Honey.

F&M Store

3. Find your Fortnum’s favourites in store

If you've got some last-minute shopping to do or some gifts to find, there's no need to travel all the way to Piccadilly for a piece of Fortnum's.

Our shelves are stocked with an expertly curated selection of Fortnum's favourites, including wine, Champagne, preserves, tea, biscuits, and hampers for every occasion in-store.

4. Shop in the most convenient ways

Sit down for a leisurely lunch while a personal shopper ticks off the must-haves on your shopping list.

And while we normally like to encourage people to take their time at Fortnum's, you can also order online and pick up in store too using our Click and Collect service – while our concierge team is always on hand to help with corporate gifting too.

5. Try some speciality tipples you won’t find anywhere else

In 1571, Thomas Gresham opened The Royal Exchange as the centre of trading stocks in The City. Who better to name our newest Royal Exchange tipple after than the man behind our new home?

The Gresham’s Martini is a blend of all the good stuff – including Fortnum’s own London Dry Gin, Lillet Blanc, Oloroso Sherry and tangy Orange Bitters. The perfect pairing with some smoked salmon (did we mention that it's hand-carved for you at the bar...?)

6. The Fortnum's Bar & Restaurant is one of London’s ‘Most Instagrammable’ restaurants

As anointed by The Evening Standard, our new digs make for a monumental selfie backdrop. Of course, it has been on quite the journey before reaching this cultural zenith: after burning down in 1666, The Royal Exchange building was rebuilt in its original Roman style, a stunning mix of towering pillars and limestone walkways. Hashtags at the ready.

7. Pick up lunch to take away

As much as we enjoy a long and leisurely multi-course feast involving much grazing and nibbling, there isn't always time. Don’t fret, we won’t let you hard-working folk miss out.

We have created a number of take-away options, inspired by our restaurant menu and available in our Royal Exchange store. From Grilled Aubergine with Crushed Chickpeas and Chicken Caesar Salad to Ploughman’s Plate and Fortnum’s Smoked Salmon, you can still enjoy the finer things in life inside a rather wonderful takeaway box.

8. Delight in our vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options

We want everyone to be able to enjoy our new outpost, whatever their dietary requirements. Just like our flagship restaurants our new menus are inclusive of gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options – with a veggie Afternoon Tea to boot.

Whether you start the day with Spiced Granola and Coconut Yoghurt or prefer a Squash and Jerusalem Artichoke Curry to end it, we’ve got you covered.

9. Personalise your gifts with us

What’s better than a lovingly gifted bottle of our Blanc de Blanc Champagne? How about a personalised bottle with a name, special date or delightful greeting on the front?

And no need to traipse over from The City to our flagship in Piccadilly – you can now get your gifts personalised with us at The Royal Exchange store there and then while you shop. Perfect.

10. Enjoy weekly live music

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm, dinner is accompanied by the old-school R&B, blues & jazz sounds of soul singer Dee and her band, and the laidback grooves of dapper-chapper supper club band The Gents. The Royal Exchange's acoustics are quite something, too.
