Packed with antioxidants and nutrients, Green Tea has long been sworn by for its excellent health benefits. Carefully selected from the finest tea gardens in China and Japan, our newest range of six new loose leaf Green Teas is a mixture of current teas – with an even higher leaf quality – and others that have previously only been available on the Rare Tea counter.
There are multiple ways to brew our new Greens, depending on the temperature of the water, each bringing out different qualities of the tea. Summer is just around the corner – alright, maybe you have to go down quite a long, chilly corridor before you reach the corner, but still – and our Green Teas are the perfect brew to pack into your picnic, or to simply bring with you on-the-go. In your Fortnum’s Flask, of course. Lower in caffeine and with less astringency, cold brewing presents other benefits too – look out for our expert guide in how to do it properly next month.
Please also allow us to relay some of the science behind all this green goodness. Imagine us wearing white lab coats while we do so. Green Tea is rich in polyphenols, also called catechins, which act as antioxidants for the body, and help fight ‘free radicals’, which are created by exposure to toxins such as cigarette smoke. The younger the bud or leaf when picked, the higher the level of antioxidants – ours are picked as very young leaves and leaf buds, and so are rich in antioxidants. Green Tea is also particularly high in something called EGCG, an especially powerful polyphenol.
Most importantly, of course, they all taste wonderful – and just so happen to look lovely in our lovely tins too. Beautiful outside and in, you might say.
