Afternoon Tea Week

Afternoon Tea - Fortnum's Style...

When it comes to the ceremony of afternoon tea, we are always pouring...

Afternoon Tea can mean different things to different people. To some it's a stylish dining experience in an elegant tea salon like our Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon, to others it's simply a catch up with a special friend over a good cup of tea (and a biscuit or five). However and wherever you choose to enjoy yours, we're here to help you make it truly divine, every time.

Fortnum's Royal Blend Tea

Tea on Arrival

When perfecting the art of the Afternoon Tea, you should always start with the supreme element - the tea itself. Read our guide on how to make the perfect cup of tea HERE, To be truly accommodating, try to provide a variety of teas for your guests, from classic Earl Grey Tea, to Green Tea, Peppermint Tea and, of course, popular English Breakfast.

We always recommend a teapot filled with our ever popular Royal Blend Tea close to hand and ready to pour too.

A combination of low-grown Flowery Pekoe from Sri Lanka and robust Assam from India, the blend of the two results in a beautiful, natural honey-sweetness and thanks to the Assam, a pleasing maltiness too. Bold, strong and bright in both appearance and taste, Royal Blend Tea is our most famous tea and it's enjoyable at any time of the day.

Splendid Serveware

To ensure that every cup of tea you serve is as elegant as possible, we advise that you invest in a few tea making essentials. A fine china teapot is an absolute must for entertaining, along with a sturdy tea strainer and tea caddy to keep your favourite tea as fresh and best tasting as possible. Our Teaware range includes all of the above and plenty more besides.

If you're looking for something truly exquisite, our new Royal Crown Derby Cloverfield collection will be just your cup of tea. The Cloverleaf collection is made from the finest bone china and has been hand-finished with 22ct gold. The design has been inspired by the Royal Blend Tea Caddy, the blend for which was originally created in the early 1900s for King Edward VII. The typical Edwardian profile of the bone china pieces marries beautifully with the design.

Champagne Afternoon Tea

A glass of something...

If you're toasting a special occasion and want to make your Afternoon Tea extra special, Champagne is the only way to go. Enjoy a glass of chilled Champagne with your Afternoon Tea and it will enhance the taste (and pleasure) of all the delicious food that you serve.

Laurent Hostomme produces our Blanc de Blancs Champagne from his own vineyards, all located within the Grand Cru region of Chouilly. The blend is always 100% Chardonnay and aged for three years ‘sur latte’ for extra complexity. It is extremely elegant, offering light floral notes and a refreshing acidity - making it absolutely perfect for Afternoon Tea.

Scones Recipe

It's Scone like gone...

It's scone like gone - as in, they are so delicious they will be gone before you know it!

The perfect scone should be pale gold in colour and offer a moment of resistance to the front teeth, before succumbing to their advance, and showing off its soft and warm centre. Slather with clotted cream and jam. Here endeth the lesson.

That's the classic scone that we know and love and that which has graced Afternoon Tea for decades. However, there's no excuse for a lack of imagination when it comes to the sugar-laden feasting that is Afternoon Tea and we've got a delicious recipe for Stilton & Blueberry Scones, taken from The Cook Book - HERE.

Fortnum's Battenberg Recipe

Start & Finish with something sweet!

Without question, our favourite way to approach Afternoon Tea is to start and finish with a mouthful of something sweet and truly scrumptious. Easily done here at Fortnum's and, with so much to choose from, you can recreate tier upon tier of loveliness when you next entertain guests with Afternoon Tea.

Note the tantalisingly moist and inviting Battenberg slice? You can master the art of this Fortnum's pleasure yourself, with the aid of our Cook Book.

Of course, if you're pushed for time or would rather we took care of the detail for you, we offer a huge range of sweet delights - including biscuits, cakes, chocolates and preserves.
