The Muscadet region is one of France's oldest appellations and is located very near Nantes in the north west of the country. For long, wines from Muscadet have been much derided, but Pierre Luneau has produced a dry and lively wine from the Melon de Bourgogne variety that will make you sit up and take note. At just 12% vol, it is very light in body, with a racy mineral freshness that places it in the Chablis style category, albeit at half the price. With its tangy almost salty flavours it provides a great match for seafood.
