Fortnum's Barolo Le Albe, G.D. Vajra, 75cl

In the 1970s, a young Aldo Vajra fell in love with the family farm in Barolo and chose to study agriculture rather than follow his father into law. He became an early advocate of organic viticulture, a radical idea at the time, and one that has remained central to the Vajra philosophy ever since. Today, the estate is run by his children, Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro. Their single-vineyard Barolos are sought after the world over, including the celebrated Bricco delle Viole, one of the highest sites in the appellation. The combination of organic farming, long macerations, and ageing in large casks reflect a deeply classical approach and produce wines of fragrance, detail, and remarkable longevity. Vajra’s wines are consistently among the most captivating in Barolo.

Tasting Note
Our Barolo is a blend of the Vajra family’s three single vineyards grown on fossil-rich limestone marls in the shadow of the Alps. This is a beguiling, scented Nebbiolo, from one of Piemonte's most respected estates.
