In February 2012, Mrs Hazel Rushton from Milnthorpe in Cumbria was awarded Best in Show at the World’s Original Marmalade Awards for her dark and chunky marmalade, made from Seville oranges, grapefruit and lemons. Hazel has been making marmalade for her family for more than 40 years and she developed this particular recipe to please Mr Rushton, who prefers his marmalade a darker shade of orange. The result, according to the judges, is ‘a rich marmalade with a wonderfully complex taste and a deep, long finish’. It can also now claim to be the best marmalade in the world – and is sold exclusively at Fortnum’s.

Fifty pence from the sale of each jar of Mrs Rushton's Marmalade will be donated to Hospice at Home, the chosen charity of the World’s Original Marmalade Awards.
