A blend of mainly Chardonnay with 7% Roussanne (fermented separately), the base for the 2009 Nantua ‘Les Deux’ comes from the Graham Warner vineyard with the remainder coming from declassified Giaconda fruit as no Giaconda Estate Chardonnay label was produced this vintage. About 600 cases of this wine are produced in an average year and they only managed to produce about this in 2009 due to heavy selection. The nose reveals gorgeous aromas of apricots, oatmeal, a bit of struck match, acacia honey and a touch of apple tart. Medium-high acid on the concentrated palate enlivens the lovely combo of silken texture and chalkiness. Long in the finish, there’s some citrus peel and minerality coming through in the last tastes. Delicious now, this wine has the acid and character to develop over 5-7 years and continue drinking to 2019. 93 Points, Wine Advocate.
