    Fortnum's Finest Spring Wines

Perfect for lighter foods and warmer weather, all of our spring wines will be excellent partners for your spring celebrations.

Spring is here, bringing with it all kinds of opportunity for trying some of Fortnum’s best spring wines. As well as the warmer weather and the lighter, seasonal food on the menu, there are celebrations on the horizon, from Mothering Sunday to Easter lunch, all of which require a wine to suit.

First on the list are Fortnum’s spring white wines, beginning with Bordeaux Blanc 2010, this is predominantly Sauvignon Blanc with some Semillon to add depth to the crisp, fresh style. Perfect with lighter meals and salads, this would be ideal for your first spring picnic or outdoor lunch. Equally refreshing is our Muscadet sur Lie 2010; the extra ageing adds a touch of savoury character to the fresh minerality. This is excellent with all seafood, especially shellfish. Finally, we are very pleased with our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010. Packed with the boisterous fruit that is expected from Marlborough, it has a restraint and elegance not always found in wines of this region.

Even though white wine is often associated with lighter foods, red wine is just as appropriate for this time of year, and we have some brilliant bottles with which to tempt you. For example, our Beaujolais Villages 2010 is the perfect wine for warm spring afternoons, especially when lightly chilled. For your Easter lunch and seasonal feasts, we’d suggest our Bourgogne Rouge 2008; ripe, juicy and silky, it is a marvellous introduction to the Domaine and is very good with roast lamb and chicken. And last but not least, our Valpolicella 2009 has a delicious bittersweet character with definable cherry fruit. Delicious on its own, its very versatile style also suits a range of foods from lamb to Scotch eggs.

If you can’t decide, the simplest course of action is to order our Spring Tasting Case, which contains two bottles of each of the six wines described above and will provide more than enough variety for entertaining as well as everyday drinking. (Image of the Spring Tasting Case below.)

In addition to our spring wines, we also have a special bottle of champagne for both Easter and Mothering Sunday. Fortnum’s Blanc de Blancs is produced by Laurent Hostomme from vineyards located within the Grand Cru region of Chouilly. The 100% Chardonnay is aged for three years for extra complexity and is an extremely elegant wine, with light floral notes and a refreshing acidity. Personalised with either a Mothering Sunday or Easter label, it will bring a touch of sophistication to your parties and celebrations.

But let’s not forget the key ingredient of Easter – chocolate. Red Wine and chocolate can mix quite well, if both are of a high quality, but you could also consider choosing a good port to enjoy with your after-dinner chocolates. Fortnum's LBV Port will complement a good, dark chocolate, especially one made with nuts, as the port itself has a plumy, nutty quality. The combination will be a fine end to any Easter lunch.
